Privacy Policy

Your story stays yours.

Effective date: July 27, 2026

The short version: Your journal lives on your device. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The only time your writing leaves your device is when you use an AI feature — and then only the text needed for that feature is sent, securely, to our AI provider to generate a response.

BigDayToday (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a personal life-history journal for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. It is written to be read, not to protect us — if anything here is unclear, email us.

What we collect

We do not collect personal information about you. The app does not ask you to create an account or sign in.

The content you create — your journal entries, the people, places, and things you record, dates, notes, and any photos, audio, or video you attach — is stored locally on your device by the app. We do not have access to it and it is not transmitted to us.

AI features and third-party processing

BigDayToday uses artificial intelligence to structure your memories, ask follow-up questions, and generate written prose about your life. To do this, the text of the entry you are working on is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our AI provider, Anthropic, PBC, which processes it and returns a response.

  • Only the text needed for the feature is sent. Your attached photos, audio, and video files are not sent.
  • This text is not linked to your name or any account, because the app has no account system.
  • Under Anthropic’s commercial API terms, your content is not used to train their models.
  • You may read Anthropic’s own policies at anthropic.com/legal.

If you choose not to use AI features, no entry text is sent anywhere.

Voice input

If you dictate an entry, the app uses Apple’s built-in speech recognition to convert your speech to text. That processing is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy terms. The resulting text is treated like anything else you type.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not track you across apps or websites. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services that identify you.

Data retention and deletion

Your entries remain on your device until you delete them or delete the app. Because your data is stored locally, deleting the app removes its data from the device. Any backups are controlled by you through your device’s normal backup settings (for example, iCloud or iTunes device backups), governed by Apple’s terms.

Children

BigDayToday is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
